As autumn arrives and the weather turns cooler, it’s the perfect season for balcony gardeners to buy and nurture flowers. Below are some beautiful and easy-to-grow options that can quickly fill your balcony with vibrant blooms.

Chrysanthemums
Autumn is the prime season for chrysanthemums. If you purchase seedlings in August or September, they can easily flourish into full, overflowing pots. Thanks to advanced cultivation, today’s flower markets offer a wide variety of colors and types beyond the classic white and yellow, including marigolds and pompon mums. In Chinese tradition, chrysanthemums symbolize longevity, happiness, and family reunion.

Care tips: Chrysanthemums love both sunlight and water. Follow the “soak and dry” rule—water thoroughly when the soil is dry but avoid waterlogging. During the growing season, apply a light fertilizer 2–3 times per month.

Amaryllis (Hippeastrum)
For beginners eager to enjoy flowers quickly, amaryllis is a perfect choice. Its blossoms are large, layered, and elegant, often appearing in soft colors like pale lavender, light green, and blush pink—never failing to impress.

Care tips: Amaryllis thrives in temperatures between 18–25°C. Buy bulbs in September or October, plant them one-third deep in garden soil, and simply provide sunlight and moderate watering. In about 40 days, you’ll enjoy blooms. Even better, it’s not a one-time wonder—feed the bulbs well after flowering, and they will bloom again the following year.

Lilies
Lilies are winter bloomers, so planting them in August or September allows you to harvest a fresh bouquet in winter. Their blossoms also carry a subtle, distinctive fragrance. Lilies tolerate semi-shaded conditions, making them an excellent option for homes with less direct sunlight.

Care tips: Lilies take about two months from bulb planting to flowering. Fertilize lightly every 7–10 days, keeping temperatures below 25°C. Before blooming, increase phosphorus fertilizer to extend the flowering period.
