When autumn arrives, both daytime and nighttime temperatures become ideal for plants, especially for those keeping plants on the balcony. During this time, the temperature is just right for most plants, making it the best time for beginners to grow flowers. It's easier to grow plants that will bloom abundantly, which can greatly lift one's mood.

Geraniums (Pelargoniums)
Geraniums have a long flowering period and a pleasant fragrance. Apart from being difficult to grow in the summer, they are a must-have plant for the balcony at other times. They bloom in various forms, with some growing into large flower balls, often referred to as "English hydrangeas." If you buy them now, they will continue blooming through autumn and winter as long as the temperature is appropriate.

Care Tips:

Ideal growth temperature: 15-20°C.

Light: At least 4 hours of sunlight per day. You can place them in a cool, ventilated spot on the balcony.

Watering: Follow the "dry-to-wet" rule. Water thoroughly when the soil is dry about 2 cm deep.

Fertilizing: In autumn, use phosphorus and potassium fertilizer to promote flowering.

Petunias
Petunias only last for two years, but they have an incredible blooming capacity. If you buy them now, they will continue to bloom through the autumn and winter seasons. They have a compact growth habit, and the small plants only cost around 5 RMB. The flowers come in a variety of colors, including blue, purple, pink, and white, and in recent years, rare varieties like starry gradient and multi-colored striped ones have been introduced.

Care Tips:

Light: Petunias prefer bright light, so place them in a spot with plenty of sunlight.

Watering: Keep the soil moist but avoid waterlogging.

Fertilizing: During the growing season, apply potassium dihydrogen phosphate once a week. After flowering, switch to slow-release fertilizer to keep the blooms coming.

Kalanchoe
The true flowering period of Kalanchoe is from autumn to the following spring. Each flowering phase can last up to three months, making it a long-lasting flowering plant. It also has strong disease resistance and is very hardy, making it a great choice for beginners.

Care Tips:

Soil: It’s not picky about soil, and it’s drought and cold-tolerant. It will thrive as long as the environment isn’t extreme.

Fertilizing: Before flowering, spray phosphorus dihydrogen phosphate once a month (diluted 1:1000). This will enhance the color of the flowers. After flowering, remember to prune the spent flowers and apply compound fertilizer.
