Phalaenopsis "Salad Gold", also known as Lawrence, has petals about 5 centimeters long. It is a charming waxy small to medium-sized variety. Its petals present a warm and gentle golden yellow color, the lip is pinkish-white and delicate, and it also exudes a faint and subtle fragrance. Most surprisingly, its flowering period lasts up to six months. This long viewing period allows orchid enthusiasts to fully enjoy this beauty.
Phalaenopsis "Salad Gold" is sturdy and easy to cultivate. There is no need to spend too much energy on its daily maintenance. Under normal maintenance conditions, it is very easy for this orchid to produce double flower spikes, and the flower spikes are thick and strong. Although the number of flowers is not abundant and the plant shape is relatively low and compact, its unique color combination is truly remarkable. The bright and dazzling yellow stamens contrast with the delicate and beautiful pink color, creating a striking yet harmonious visual effect. No matter which corner of the home it is placed in, it can become a prominent focal point.
**Key Points of Maintenance**
**Substrate Selection**: Phalaenopsis "Salad Gold" is suitable for a loose and breathable substrate mixture of sphagnum moss and bark. Before use, it should be fully soaked and disinfected to prevent the growth of pathogens.
**Light**: Phalaenopsis "Salad Gold" prefers bright scattered light. It can be placed on the east or west-facing windowsills indoors. If placed on a south-facing windowsill, it needs to be shaded. Ensure 6 to 8 hours of light per day. Excessive light is likely to cause burns, and insufficient light will lead to excessive elongation of the plant.
**Temperature**: The suitable growth temperature is 18 - 28°C. In winter, the temperature should not be lower than 15°C, and in summer, it should not exceed 30°C. Maintaining a temperature difference of 5 - 8°C between day and night is beneficial for growth and blooming.
**Watering**: Follow the principle of "watering when the substrate is dry and then thoroughly". When the surface of the sphagnum moss is dry and the inside is slightly moist, or when the bark substrate turns white, it is time to water. Use room-temperature water to thoroughly wet the substrate, and avoid splashing water onto the center of the leaves. Water once every 2 to 3 days in summer and once every 7 to 10 days in winter.
**Fertilization**: During the growing season, apply a balanced fertilizer diluted 1000 to 1500 times 2 to 3 times a month. During the flower bud period, switch to phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, applying once every 10 to 15 days. Reduce fertilization in autumn and winter, applying a thin fertilizer once a month.
**Ventilation and Humidity**: Keep the environment well-ventilated, with a humidity of 60% to 80%. When the air is dry, spray water on the ground to increase humidity, but avoid water accumulation on the leaves.
**Precautions**
1. Repot the plant after the flowering period every 1 to 2 years, trim the roots, and change the substrate.
2. After the flowers wither, cut off the withered flowers, and leave 2 to 3 nodes on the flower spike. There is a possibility of a second blooming.
3. Use carbendazim to prevent diseases, use insecticides to control pests, and keep the environment clean and well-ventilated.
