Want more flower buds on your Phalaenopsis? The key lies in three core factors: light, temperature difference, and nutrients! Here’s a step-by-step guide to the specific operations—even beginners can easily master it~
### Temperature Difference
Control the night temperature at 15-20℃ and keep it at 25-30℃ during the day. Create a 6-10℃ day-night temperature difference by opening windows for ventilation (avoid direct cold winds). After 1-2 weeks, flower spikes will quietly emerge~
Note! The temperature difference must not exceed 10℃, otherwise the buds may wither. Sudden direct cold winds or frequent relocation can also cause the buds to "stop working"—keep it steadily placed and avoid disturbing it!
### Light
Provide 4-6 hours of bright scattered light daily (such as behind a window screen or in a balcony corner), and avoid midday sun exposure (which can scorch the leaves).
In winter, when light is weak, place it on a south-facing windowsill for 1-2 hours of direct sunlight. In summer, it must be shaded by 50%, otherwise, yellow leaves and bud drop may occur.
Adequate light allows flower buds to "gather enough energy" to emerge!
### Humidity
Phalaenopsis loves a humid environment (humidity above 60%) but is afraid of waterlogged roots:
- Spray the leaves with a spray bottle 2-3 times a week (avoid the center of the leaves to prevent rot), or place a wet towel or shallow water tray next to the pot (do not let the pot bottom soak in water) to increase air humidity.
- Water only when the surface of the sphagnum moss turns white (let the substrate dry out slightly between waterings), and never let water accumulate in the pot. Both overly dry and overly wet roots will affect bud development.
### Fertilizer + Pruning
① Precise fertilization without damaging roots
- Use orchid-specific nutrient solution to water the roots once a week (dilute according to instructions). Alternatively, make "natural fertilizer": chop apple peels and aloe vera, soak them in water, ferment for 1 week, filter, dilute 10 times, and water the roots—this gently promotes bud growth.
- Always water thoroughly before fertilizing to avoid root burn! For better results, use "Duojianwang flowering essence" and spray the leaves 3-5 times a week to make buds plumper.
② Post-flowering pruning to promote branching
Don’t cut off all the flower stems after blooming! Keep 2-3 nodes at the base of the stem and cut off the rest—this stimulates the growth of side branches.
Dip a cotton swab in "Huabao Duo" (available in flower shops) and apply it to the top of the flower stem once every 5 days for 3-5 consecutive times to speed up side bud growth.
### Pitfalls to Avoid
- Don’t relocate it frequently! Phalaenopsis is sensitive to environmental changes, and moving it around can cause bud drop.
- When there’s a large temperature fluctuation (e.g., sudden cold snaps), move it to a warm place promptly and cover it with a transparent plastic bag (with air holes) to retain moisture and heat.
In short, care for it using these methods, and your Phalaenopsis will not only produce more buds but also bloom neatly!
