I've been greatly amazed by Phalaenopsis 'Bologna' recently. As a European variety of Phalaenopsis cultivated by Anthura, it not only has extremely high ornamental value but also is easy to maintain, and even beginners can handle it with ease.
Phalaenopsis 'Bologna' is a medium-flower type, with a single flower diameter of 7 to 8 centimeters. The most amazing thing is its waxy petals, which feel thick and textured. Compared with common orange-colored Phalaenopsis such as 'Ponkan' and 'kumquat', the flower color of Phalaenopsis 'Bologna' has a retro brown tone, which is more rich and gorgeous. With faint lines, it exudes a high level of sophistication.
Under normal maintenance, the single flower of Phalaenopsis 'Bologna' has a flowering period of up to 2 to 3 months, and the whole plant's ornamental period can last for 4 to 6 months. Moreover, it has a strong ability to rebloom. After the flowers wither, with good care, you can soon enjoy a pot full of romance again.
Many flower enthusiasts are worried that it is difficult to cultivate it in summer. Don't worry. By mastering the following skills, Phalaenopsis 'Bologna' can still be in great condition.
Light: When the temperature exceeds 28℃, quickly pull up the sunshade net. Place Phalaenopsis 'Bologna' on the east or west balcony or by the south-facing window, and pull up the sheer curtain. It is sufficient to expose it to diffused light for 2 to 3 hours, otherwise, the petals are likely to get burnt edges.
Watering: It's better to keep the soil on the dry side. In summer, Phalaenopsis 'Bologna' enters a semi-dormant state, so be "ruthless" when watering. Water it when the planting medium is completely dry, about once every 10 to 15 days. The pot soaking method is the safest. Fill the water to a level of 5 cm, soak it for 10 minutes, and then drain it. Never water the center of the leaves.
Ventilation: Open the window for more than 3 hours a day, or use a small fan to blow at a low speed to keep the air circulating. In a stuffy environment, germs are likely to breed. With good ventilation, problems like root rot and black spots will disappear.
Fertilization: Apply thin fertilizers frequently. Use a special orchid fertilizer diluted 1,000 times once a month and pour it along the edge of the pot, avoiding contact with the roots. Before the flowering period, switch to Flower多多No. 2 to promote flower bud differentiation.
Precautions:
1. Don't plant it with ordinary soil! Use a mixed planting medium of bark, sphagnum moss, and ceramsite, which is breathable and prevents root rot.
2. If the leaves turn yellow or the roots rot, isolate and deal with it immediately to avoid infection.
3. Don't expose it directly to the air outlet in an air-conditioned room. Keep it at least 1 meter away from the air outlet, as a large temperature difference is likely to cause the flower buds to wither.
Is the Phalaenopsis 'Bologna' variety good?
