What causes the flower buds of cherry tomatoes to wither?

Attention cherry tomato growers! Did your perfectly blooming flowers suddenly wilt? It's most likely due to one of these 5 reasons. Identifying the problem correctly is the key to saving your harvest. Let's talk about them:

1. Temperature
- Below 10°C: The pollen tubes can't grow, pollination fails, and the flowers gradually wilt.
- Above 35°C: Petals and stamens directly "age" and fall off while blooming.
- Nighttime temperature exceeding 20°C: The plant "stays up late" consuming nutrients, leaving the flowers without nutrition and causing them to wither.

Solution: Move to a spot with scattered light on hot days; cover with a plastic bag for insulation in low temperatures; remember to ventilate and cool down at night.

2. Humidity
- Excessively high humidity (>80%): Pollen absorbs water, swells, and rots; petals may also mold and decay.
- Excessively low humidity (<40%): Pollen dries out and dies, and the stigma becomes dry, making pollination impossible.

Solution: Spray water around the plants when it's dry (avoid spraying directly on flowers); use a fan to circulate air when humid; balcony growers should place them near windows for better ventilation.

3. Fertilizer
- Lack of calcium/phosphorus/boron: Petal edges wither, flower stalks are weak, and pollen may not even form.
- Too much nitrogen fertilizer: Leaves grow wildly, competing for nutrients, causing flowers to wilt from nutrient deprivation.

Solution: Water more potassium dihydrogen phosphate (to supplement phosphorus) during the flowering period; occasionally spray a boric acid solution; stop using nitrogen fertilizer immediately.

4. Root System
- Root rot: Rotten roots can't absorb water and nutrients, leading to wilting flowers and yellowing leaves.
- Bacterial wilt: The "vessels" in the roots get blocked, causing flowers to wilt very quickly, while leaves remain green but droop.

Solution: If something seems wrong, promptly remove the plant from the pot to check the roots. Cut off rotten roots, disinfect them, and don't hesitate to replace the soil and pot if the issue is severe.

5. Soil
- Compacted soil: Roots are suffocated due to lack of oxygen, unable to absorb nutrients, leading to gradual flower wilting.
- Overwatering and waterlogging: Roots get rotten from soaking, causing flowers to wilt directly.

Solution: Use a mix of leaf mold, garden soil, and perlite (3:2:1). Check the soil before watering—only water when the top 2cm of soil is dry. Place ceramsite at the bottom of the pot to prevent waterlogging.

In fact, wilting cherry tomato flowers aren't可怕 (terrible). First check temperature and humidity, then inspect fertilizer and soil, and finally check if the roots are rotten. Remove wilted flowers promptly to avoid wasting nutrients—with adjusted care, new flowers will grow soon!
