When you first visit a flower market, the stunning array of flowers can be overwhelming, with countless varieties and a wide range of colors, making it easy to become mesmerized.

Among all the beautiful flowers, the Phalaenopsis orchid is one of the most commonly chosen due to its elegant flowers and long blooming period. It looks great whether placed in the living room or bedroom. So, once you bring this vibrant flower home, how should you care for it?

The most common issue in orchid care is when the leaves appear limp and droopy. Many gardeners assume this is caused by overwatering, but more often than not, it is a sign of soft rot, a common disease in orchids. Once affected, the plant becomes lifeless and lacking vitality, with leaves wilting and drooping due to dehydration. In severe cases, the plant may even die. So, what should you do in such situations?

First, if you notice your orchid has soft rot, go ahead and buy some "Baijunqing" (a fungicide), and dilute it according to the instructions on the packaging. Next, take a small spray bottle, fill it with the diluted solution, and carefully spray it onto the infected areas of the orchid. Be cautious not to spray too aggressively; just make sure to cover the affected areas evenly.

How often should you spray? It’s recommended to spray once every 10 to 15 days, and you should repeat the process three times. This treatment acts as a "course of medicine" for the orchid, and consistent application is necessary for effective treatment.

Additionally, after spraying the medication, there’s an important detail to keep in mind. It’s advised to move the orchid to a cool, well-ventilated indoor spot. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight. This not only helps the medication work more effectively in a cool and ventilated environment, but it also protects your own health, as some medications may have strong odors that could be harmful. By placing the orchid in a well-ventilated area, you reduce the impact of these odors on yourself.
