Many friends living in older neighborhoods know that the living environments are often quite dark. This is because, in the past, building conditions were limited, with 7 to 9-story walk-up buildings, and the spaces between buildings were very narrow, often referred to as "handshake buildings." So, in such limited lighting conditions, what plants are suitable?

Chinese Evergreen (Aglaonema)
Also known as Duck Foot Tree, Chinese Evergreen is relatively small and mainly grown for its foliage. It grows to about 1 to 1.5 meters in height, making it suitable for places like TV cabinets and bathrooms. It thrives in warm, humid environments and its leaves appear more vibrant in shady spots. Additionally, it is known as the "enemy of second-hand smoke" in the plant world, as its leaves are covered with fine hairs that can absorb nicotine particles. Although it prefers shade, occasionally moving it to a place with light will help keep its green color stable.
Evergreen (Aspidistra)
Also called Four Seasons Evergreen, this plant symbolizes longevity, wealth, and health, making it a great addition to your home. It has attractive leaves with a painted texture, making it a natural decorative piece. In terms of care, it prefers a warm, humid, and semi-shady environment (shade will make its leaves even more vibrant), and it dislikes waterlogging, so make sure not to overwater.
Pothos (Golden Pothos)
Pothos is a perfect plant for beginners because it can thrive anywhere, even in relatively dark environments. It will stay lush and green, bringing a soothing atmosphere. Additionally, it can be grown in both soil and water, adapting to different conditions. A little tip for care: adding a few drops of beer to the water or wiping the leaves with beer can help the leaves become thicker and more vibrant.
Anthurium (Flamingo Flower)
Many people first glance at it and think it's a delicate flower, but it’s actually one of the toughest plants in low-light conditions. Its biggest feature is that it can bloom even without light. Even in damp corners, it can produce soft, pink flowers that last a long time. When caring for it, make sure not to expose it to strong winds, as this can cause yellowing of the leaves.
