Many retired uncles and aunts love growing flowers and plants, because taking care of these plants can kill time, and it can also bring peace of mind. According to incomplete statistics, compared with the same period last year, the number of phalaenopsis orchids has increased by 3.2%. From this, we can know that many people have grown phalaenopsis orchids at home. However, not everyone knows how to grow phalaenopsis orchids well, and there are a lot of tips and experiences involved.
Although phalaenopsis orchids grow in tropical rainforests where it is generally humid all year round, in fact, the roots of orchids prefer a dry and well-ventilated environment. Because in their native places, the roots are completely exposed in prominent positions instead of being hidden in the soil. From this, we can know that both the roots and leaves of phalaenopsis orchids are most afraid of being placed in a relatively enclosed environment. It is recommended that when cultivating them, place them on an east-facing windowsill as a priority, because there is sufficient natural light there. Secondly, an east-facing window is also a good choice. Usually, it will not be directly exposed to strong sunlight, which can effectively prevent the leaves from being sunburned. If there is no east-facing windowsill at home, the phalaenopsis orchids can be placed about 1 meter away from the window to receive sunlight. In the afternoon, measures to block the light need to be taken to avoid excessive exposure, which may cause damage to the plants.
In addition, in daily life, we need to pay attention to some odors that may affect the growth of orchids, such as chemicals like insecticides, perfumes, toilet cleaners, and disinfectants. For example, if someone smokes or burns moxa sticks at home, these odors may become air pollutants and cause harm to the plants. At the same time, we also need to keep the indoor environment clean, and avoid dust accumulation around the phalaenopsis orchids to ensure a clean and hygienic growing environment.
In addition to the problems mentioned above, many people overlook the watering techniques. The watering should be adjusted according to the temperature in different seasons. For example, in spring and autumn, when the temperature is relatively more suitable compared to summer and winter, the frequency of watering should be increased, and it is recommended to water twice a week. In summer, when there are many high-temperature days, in addition to increasing the frequency of watering, we also need to spray water around the plants in a timely manner to increase the air humidity. In the cold winter, the plants should be moved indoors and the frequency of watering should be reduced. When watering, we should also pay attention not to water directly on the flower heads, because this can easily lead to problems like the plants getting "Mediterranean" (it may refer to some plant problems, but the expression "Mediterranean" here seems a bit unclear. It might be a wrong term. Maybe it means some kind of disease or abnormal state) and the leaves are likely to get leaf rot. It is recommended to water from the edge of the pot or through the gaps between the leaves, which can ensure that the soil in the pot is evenly replenished with water.
