As we all know, smoking is harmful to health, yet nearly 50% of smokers in China smoke an average of 10 cigarettes a day. This leads to around 700 million people being exposed to secondhand smoke, including 180 million children. Even with family members, spouses, and children urging them to quit, a significant number of people are unable to stop. So, what can be done? Since they live in the same space, why not try keeping these

plants?
Pothos (Duck Foot Plant)
Pothos, also known as the "Money Tree," is primarily grown for its ornamental foliage. The leaves resemble small windmills or palms, symbolizing wealth and prosperity. It is also known as the "best plant for absorbing secondhand smoke" because it can convert nicotine in smoke into nutrients for itself.
Care Tips: Pothos prefers warm, humid environments, with an ideal temperature range of 18°C to 27°C. It thrives in normal weather conditions and can be kept shiny and healthy. It’s best to place it indoors, near east or north-facing windows where it will receive bright but indirect sunlight. For watering, keep the soil slightly moist but avoid over-watering.
English Ivy
English Ivy has highly ornamental leaves, some varieties are solid green, while others have golden edges or heart-shaped leaves. It is also widely recognized as a "king of oxygen release." The leaves of English Ivy can filter harmful substances like sulfur dioxide in secondhand smoke.
Care Tips: For optimal care, Ivy should be hung up to promote better ventilation. Avoid placing it in a closed environment, as it can easily attract pests and diseases. The temperature should be kept above 5°C, as exposure to temperatures below 5°C can cause the leaves to turn red and affect its overall appearance.
Ficus (Weeping Fig)
Ficus, or Weeping Fig, is a less common plant, but it has excellent air-purifying abilities, especially when it comes to harmful gases like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides in secondhand smoke.
Care Tips: Ficus thrives in warm environments and can stay evergreen as long as the temperature doesn’t fall below 5°C. It grows best in summer, and the soil should be kept moist for proper growth.
